Our production designer, Krystyna Loboda, designed a wonderful set for us. We wanted a modern feel. Bill felt that the Bugsy Siegel in KMD would have a modern looking office with cool art. Krystyna added a Roswell themed mural to the model but we felt it was a bit too much and decided to go with a Kandinsky like mural instead. The windows in the model were horizontal basement like windows that rested near the top of the ceiling. In the end, we shifted to long vertical windows to get the lighting style we desired. The scene takes place in the early morning and I wanted shafts of light to cut up the room. At the end of the room is the Vegas map Bugsy shows Charlie. It would need to be concealed until Bugsy pushes a remote control button triggering the secret wall panel that slides open to reveal the map with circling lights. I also wanted to have the map opening be removable so I could use it as a camera portal. It would save us having to take down a wall for certain angles. We shot a big dolly move through the portal. Krystyna picked out really cool furniture and set pieces. I loved this set. We were sad to see it torn down.
