Charlie's apartment was modeled after the Alto Nido apartments which appear in Sunset Boulevard. Charlie lives on the upper stories so he can see the HOLLYWOODLAND sign from his window. Four scenes take place inside the apartment. We scheduled a 5 day shoot to cover these sequences. There were a couple of walls that were built as wild walls so they could be removed for dolly shots but I also asked the art department for a camera portal behind the bar mirror so we could use it instead of taking out the wall. To give the illusion that we were a few stores up, the Art Dept. brought in a building facade. Fake palm trees and a large mural of the Hollywood Hills.
